Today we are having a talk on what pathway to choose for our second year, i have looked at what other people are thinking on facebook and they all seem to be choosing pathway B which is the one about design. I think i am going to choose pathway A - Fashion and innovation.
Pathway A: Fashion & Innovation
This option offers you the chance to work with an emphasis on originality, innovation and creativity, and encourages you to use your vision to promote your work. You’ll explore design development, innovative approaches to fashion design, and the communication of fashion concepts through digital media and fashion promotion. Unique modules include Innovative Cut, Fashion Concepts and New Media and Digital Realisation Techniques.
Before i choose to come to Leeds to do Fashion i was looking at doing a fashion promotion course so it would focus just on fashion promotion whereas this course does everything and in second year you choose a more indepth way of working but still learn overall skills. The B pathway seems really making and designing orientated and keeps mentioning the word 'tailoring'! and that really puts me off, hopefully the tutors can see that i dont want to be doing that as i woud find it so incredibly hard!
I guess i will find out more in the talk and then can make a final decision but the reasion i went for this course is because in the second year we do get to choose and pathway A was the reason!
Anyway we will see!

NEARLY AT THE END!
So it is the week before hand in and we are all abit crazy trying to get our final projects together, its hard because we have this interdisciplinary as well as PPD1 which is quite confusing. I think i am on top of everything, got checklists everywhere! bought a cd today for my presentation and final 15 images, still got to figure out which ones i am going to use though.
Today is helping the 3rd years but mine is not here. I think she is quite behind but i cant help her if she isn't in! Ive done some bits and bobs of research and made a poster for models and i think these have helped take abit of the pressure off for her. Hopefully she will be ok, only one more session with her before uni is over for year 1!
I have finished my final garment for inter module and am quite pleased with it, i hope it is good enough as i haven't made it to a crazy high standard as i just don't know how to ! i feel i have learnt bits about how o make a garment but overall my dress if you look closely is abit scatty but i am happy with it!

WORKING WITH 3RD YEARS
Thursday 30th April
Today we met our 3rd years that we will be helping for a few weeks every thursaday. Mine is called Hannah, she seems really nice. Her collection is quite complex and interesting. She is basing it on women who have undergone a mastectomy and want clothing that is feminine and enhances the feminine frame. To me, it isn't something i would do ever, but it seems to fit her and is working out well. She does seem to have a lot to do and i would be worrying if i were her but i'm guessing she is on track and organised as she seems to know what she's doing!
I helped her firstly with some questionaires on cancer forums, i need to check to see if anyone has replied! But then she decided to go home and finish some sewing as the machines at uni were so full so she left about half 1 and i went to help Grace. Everyone else seems to be drawing around patterns to hand in and stayed for ages!
She asked me to fins models for her review but i don't know how! Apparently they have to kind of hire them but from an agency they cost loads so they just have to find people from around college.
Its been good but not sure what she will want me to do next week, but is quite fun!

Interdisciplinary Processes

Our new module is Interdisciplinary Processes. It is supposed to combine all we have learnt in our first year. It started in March before we went for easter and started with the fabric workshops that stupidly i missed. But i think now i have caught up and look forward to this module.
Over the easter i created 15 pages on METAMORPHOSIS which is the theme to this module. I found this quite hard as metamorphosis is a very broad subject. On our first day back we had a task of design development which i really did not like, well i did like it i just didn't think i produced the correct work and that annoyed me. I didn't like what i did and am gonna do that again!
We have to produce a garment, and i do have ideas about what i want to make, and i really want to get it good this time!
These are a few of my research pages!
FINAL FASHION ART AND CULTURE
So these are my final photos for my fashion art and culture module. I looked into British and Japanese Street Fashion and was trying to portray through my artifact how British fashion is subtle and JApanese quite the opposite. I really like what i came up with, i think it looks really edgy and is visually interesting!
My photos were supposed to give a bright and colourful background to my model and to show the simple British countryside as well. I think they came out really well and are what i wanted them to look like.
Hopefully my project is okay, i really tried to work hard on this one but as always it doesn't seem to work that way and I'm not always happy with my project as a whole. I really want to work on this in yr2.
FAC continued
We have just been told we are getting an extension on out project PHEW i swear if we didnt have it i would be so screwed! haha but this is good. Now we have until we come back from Easter which is an extra month so thats good.
I am finding it quite hard to get my head around the brief as i think i am going in the wrong direction.
Today we had a crit and it was pretty good as it really made me think about what i was doing. It was defiantly interesting to see what other people had done and i really think we should do this more throughout each module. The crit helped me by giving me ideas about where to go next and what is right and wrong with my project. It did confuse me a bit as i think i had not really got the right idea about the project but i also think it helped.

FASHION ART AND CULTURE

22nd January 09
So today we were given our new brief. It is called 'Fashion, Art and Culture' It is led by Sue so that will be good to have a different tutor. This term we are hardly in, just tuesday morning and wednesday afternoon so it's abit crazy! We are having 'lectures' on fashion art and culture to help us with our project. These will be inteesteing i think.
29th january 09
Had our first lecture on fashion art and culture today, it ws pretty good, kind of like a big group discussion about fashion! It was to do with stuff like social agendas and difernt styles of fashion through out the years. It was pretty informative and hopefully it will help with the module...?
We are supposed to make an artefact to put in the online exhibition and this will be our final piece.
I have chosen to look at Japanese culture and how they are differnt to London Britsh Fashion culture. it is a quite confusing brief and it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what i am planning on doing.
We are getting a lot of time for this project as we have reading week and stuff inbetween. Hope i get it done in time, i need to organise myself alot more!
My Jewellery Elective
So i have now finished my jewellery elective and i am kinda pleased with my final outcome, it doesn't use any crazy ways to manipulate metal but it was what i wanted. Hopefully it will be ok and i will pass, as my attendance was not great! I defiantly don't want to do jewellery again as it was interesting in the beginning but i really didn't like it by the end. It did just seem like a chore, and i think i would have liked photography better as then i could have used it in my fashion modules.
CONTAINER CULTURE

This is the module we have been given after xmas, it is quite a good one i think. It's called 'Container Culture' and i have been looking into doors and windows - the idea being they are the thing that contains the house... and the different shapes they make. It is a purely designing module and we do not have to make anything, we have to look into fabrics and trends for s/s 09 when designing.
My ideas linked into pockets and this became the theme of my designs. I really enjoyed designing and liked to think about different shapes. I have never designed like this before and thought that it was difficult to begin with but once you start you can roll off lots of designs. We had to produce a large amount of design development and i found this frustrating but i got it done! I think for my designing in the future i really need to think outside the box and look for inspiration in my research.
I like the work i have done in this module the most, although it think i could have done more. These are a few pieces of my work. My final line up is a bit dodgy, i think i used too much of the same colour and didn't think it through enough!
Elective.....
So i missed a few of my elective before Christmas and i missed the one just as i came back, which is a bit silly! I am probably really far behind! But i have been working on my sketchbook for it and have been doing research into what i wanna make. The stuff we did before xmas wasn't what i wanted to do and that may be why i haven't gone... but i have a few ideas which i wanna look into and hopefully it will be ok!
Back to uni!
10th January 2009!!!!
It is nearly time to go back to Leeds now, i am getting a lift with my dad so he can stock me up with food! I did get my work done, i kind of rushed it during this last week but i like what i have made. I bought some baby knitted cardigans in candy colours from a charity shop near me and have made them into bows! They are attached with elastic so can be worn like a headband. they are pretty cute and i would wear them myself lol. This is a picture of me and my bf skiing! thought i'd add it in haha, I'm quite looking forward to going back to Leeds, it will be weird as i've been away for a whole month and it's been really nice at home seeing my parents and going on holiday! I wanna get back to uni though and start a new module.
christmas! christmas! christmas!
14th december 08
So we have finished now for Christmas, and have pretty much done half the course! It has gone really fast and i've enjoyed it lots! I have enjoyed living in Leeds but am looking forward to spending some time at home over the holidays. We have a project to do over Christmas, we have to design and make a new accessory for River Island out of something recycled from a charity shop. I think i want to do something for your hair like a bow or a fascinator. I am going skiing with my parents and boyfriend for new years so that will be good and i hope i'll be able to fit in work as well!

Jewellery Elective
We had to choose an elective to do over 10 weeks for part of our first year. We got two choices, i chose Black and white photography and jewellery. I really wanted to do B/W photography because i have never tried it before and i am quite interested in photography, especilly old fashioned ways of doing it. I chose jewellery becuase i have always made my own jewllery from bits and bobs and enjoy creating things. I ended up with Jewellery over the 10 weeks and was quite looking forward to it. The only thing i didnt want to do is to make things out of metal because that is really not the kind of jewellery i am interested in, but after going to a few i realised that is what we were going to do!
TRENDS
For part of our module we also had to look into Autumn/Winter trends 08 and learn about trend boards and mood boards. This was a really good part of the project as it gave us an insight into the actual fashion buisness and where designs and trends start from. We had to take photos of trends on the highstreet and reserch them online from websites such as WGSN and trendsetter.com. We had to produce a trend board for each trend of the season. I used my skills i learnt in CAD to upload them onto photoshop and create an interesting and informative trend board for each one.

Creative design Practices final photos!
Creative Design Realisation!
So during the time we have been doing out project on the words we have also been doing creative design realization, this is a one day a week module where we make a pattern and a dress out of calico - a twirl? I chose to make a simple dress, out of a magazine, one i would personally wear! I found this quite hard as i have never made anything from a pattern before or even made a pattern! i never did anything like this on my foundation year as i just draped my clothing i made. I didn't feel like we were taught very much, i felt like i was just guessing about what i was doing and when i did ask i was told but otherwise i was just following what the others who knew what they were doing. Hugo was really helpful in the more technical stuff like zips etc. My final dress came out really well and i am proud of what i made! But to do it again with a pattern will defiantly be hard as i feel i have forgotten everything already!
So we have nearly finished our creative approaches to fashion, i have found it good, but now i realise that i need to plan my time more as i was really rushing at the end. i think everyone found this which can be expected in our first project. i dont really like what i came up with, i really do think i could have done better if i spent my time properly doing reserch and then deisigns. In my next module i want to make myself get more organised!
November 10th 2008
We have been doing a module called - Creative approaches to fashion, it is coming from parts of the work we were set over the summer. Its an interesting module and is definatly giving me an insight into what the course is going to be like and the kind of work i will be producing.
we've also been having drawing classes which have been quite good! its very experimental and at times is difficult. we had to produce 30 of these type of drawngs for our final piece and i look forward to doing some of my own.
