Research Practices... so far.....

So we have got a week ish left to finish our last module project, research practices. For this we had to take inspirtation from one of our critical and contexual lectures and our essay.

For my essay i did androgyny so i decided to do this for my project. I am looking at how androgyny is in fashion, and espicilly in childrenswear, i wanted to do a range on boys clothes but for women. These are my ideas so far...

I'm really enjoying this project as it is using a whole new idea and i think i am thinking outside the box abit more, i am worried about designing as i feel it isn't my strongest point but i am excited about it as it is a project i really am enjoying doing.

PROMOTION MODULE

So from our research in innovative cut we have a new module that is about making and planning an event for our range from the previous project to be shown at.

The idea is that a designer has pulled out of fashion week so there is a stand and an event spare that i have to make a presentation to the fashion week board to see if i can get that space to show my work. So we have to design a range of products from our last design in innovative cut and then create a concept and idea about an event and design a stand to show these designs.

I chose to do a french theme event and stand as that is where i took my insiration from initially, i wanted to use the french singer coeur de pirate and make a show that combines music and fashion.

It was quite a rushed project but it was really interesting and fun as we got to make a video and do a promotions type project which is maybe what i would like to go into in the future.

This is the project i have done the best in so far in my fashion degree so i was really proud of it and am glad i put so much effort in to get the grade i did.

3 MIN FILM

So today we had a mini master class on how to edit film on final cut for our next module. It was really really fun and i learnt so much about film editing in one day. we had to create a 3 minute film for a fashion TV show using photos and youtube videos in preparation for making out own video.

This is my video!

It took a long time to make but definatly will help is when we have to make a longer video for other modules or just being able to use final cut in the future.

Innovative Cut Module

This module was really fun, it was about an avant garde design that we had to made as well. I took influence from my trip to paris and chose to do a french theme.

I looked at the flea market photos and chose to use some old music manuscript i found there as my inspiration, i started my reserch into avant garde designs and from that i got the idea of origami birds and this is where to took my designs and final garment.

I wanted to use the paper to make my birds so i chose to do a whole paper garment so it was recyclable and realyy avant garde.

I was really pleased with how my research came together but my garment as i made it out of only paper was quite shoddy so i think i could have done that better and lined it with something to make it stronger.

These are a few images from my reserch and designs.

TRIP TO PARIS!

For my 21'st birthday me and my boyfriend took a trip to Paris, it was september so the weather was great and the city was so beautiful.

We were staying near the Moulin Rouge so it was quite central and we went to vintage shops, flea markets and lots of tourist places, the eiffel tower, mont martre and many more!

These are few of my favourite pictures.

COMME DES GARCONS RESEARCHhttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pg1QbPvLF_I/S-HF4P4OQFI/AAAAAAAAAGM/SOiHjW7Y9Ac/s1600/img024.jpg

Over the summer we were given a project to research into CDG fashion line, i really enjoyed this as it was the first glimmer of what we would be doing in Pathway A.
These are a few of my pages from the summer work.

APPLICATION OF DESIGN WORK

This project was really interesting and fun but it was also time consuming and hard to work in a group. Initially it was ok, finding what brand we wanted to create for our range and our individual research, but as we went through it and had to work in a group more often so all our work went well together it was hard to find time to get together and properly work as a team.

I found the research initially was ok, we worked out we wanted to do a sideline for CDG for All Saints, called Brocante and it would be a ready to wear line that was autumn/winter inspired by dark colours and tartan.

The designing was ok, it was easy to choose who did what as we all had a clear choice of what we wanted to do, and so we had enough freedom with each other to just get on with it.

In working as a group it was hard as we weren't in at the same time alot and it was hard to communicate with each of the girls to get things sorted and finished.

i think these problems let to us having quite a disappointing presentation at the end and not getting the best work we could.

Wednesday 30th January APP OF DESIGN

So today we started our new module called 'Application of Design'. It is all about how to apply design into making a range of clothing and a mini fashion line. We had to bring in our summer work on CDG and look though it as a group. I enjoyed this as i was pleased with my CDG work and we also had to look into trends that were given to us on the letters they sent us.

The idea for this module is that we were put into groups of 4 and had to come up with a CDG sideline designer collection and create ourselves a range of 6 garments drawn and then make up one of the garments to show as a range of 4 in our group.

We also have to put a presentation together as if we were selling our range to a buyer so i think this will be alot of work.

I am not necessarily great in group work and i think it may be difficult as working in a group that isn't your friends can be hard to organise and get together and especially if you all different ideas its hard to get a conceivable collection together.

September 28th Enterprise module starts

So today we had out first Enterprise lecture, it was really interesting and the point of it all is that we are all going to be put into groups and we have to come up with a business idea - could be a shop or a concept or a website etc and we have to put together a business plan and do costing and everything you would do if you were actually going to start a business.

The lecture was interesting and it defiantly gave me an insight into all the business aspects of starting something like a business or a shop together as a group.

Friday 25th January PPD2

So today we started
PPD2 which is the 2ND part to our Personal and Professional Development module. This year i think it will be alot better as we will be trying to find work placements and emailing prospective clients for jobs etc and also interview techniques. I really want to go into styling or editorial magazines or even promotion so i am going to look into this straight away as especially for the promotion aspect it would be good to get into LFW or something like that as it would be a great way to find out how the companies work not just in designing but in putting everything together for the shows.

The kind of places and brands i will be looking into applying for a work placement are:

Lula magazine

and Luella fashion house, i want to work for someone that i like and am interesed in and these two types og magazines and designers are just that.

September 18th 2010 START OF UNI!

Beginning of a new College Year, enrolled today onto the 2ND year, am quite worried about it as these marks really mean something as they go towards my degree!

Haven't been writing over summer but to get up to date, for our summer project we had to research into Comme Des Garcons and create a sketchbook about their designs and philosophy behind what they do. I quite enjoyed just researching a designer as it made me think more about how design company's work as a whole and how they don't just make clothes but have a whole thought process that includes sustainability etc behind it.

15 PIECES

This is another of my photos from the photoshoot, i love the colours in this photo and you can see the whole dress. I think this is also a goof final photo but i wanted a more close up on the dress in my final one.

This is my final garment in calico from the design realisation module. I was really proud of this and was excited about making a garment the i made the pattern for as well from a picture. I found it fiddicult as i didnt even know what facing was so i found it differcult but interesting!

This is my final garment from the last module, interdisiplinary procesees, we just did. I was happy with my design and proud that i managed to make my own patternt out of moulage and it came out ok. I think it looks good and the idea behind it is interesting.

These are 2 of my favorite trend boards, I really liked doing this module as well as it is what i am interested in and i think i produced a good set of trend boards, I think i could have laid them out better and maybe used photoshop better but i like the way they look and enjoyed the process.

This is my final line up for the Container module. I like what i came up with but think i could have come up with a more outrageous line up that used more colours and shapes.

These are 2 pieces of my research at the beginning of term, i like the research pages and think that they are my best for this module. I enjoyed doing this project but i think i have progressed alot since it.

This is part of my initial design develeopment i like this better than my final line up to be honest as i like the colours and materials better. I think i could have designed these garments better but i will use this in the future.

This is another of my CAD outcomes, i really like the image in this and i was practicing with the different ways to edit photos and this is what i came up with.

This is one of my shop reports on Topshop, i chose it because i really enjoyed researching it and i liked the way it came out. I enjoyed producing these and thought it was fun to do.

This is one of my CAD outcomes for my 30 drawing images. I really liked working on photoshop and i like working on a computer doing doing something creative. I scanned in one of my drawings from the drawing workshop and edited it and this is the outcome.

This is another of my drawing workshop outcomes, it is not done using cad, but is hand rendered. I like it because it is quite modern and minimal. I like the contrast of the black and white cut out and the bold flouresent colours.

This is my final photograph from my fashion art and culture module. I really like my outcome as i think it pulls my whole idea together. I really enjoyed the photoshoot and the idea about my dress.

This is my final outcome for the first module. I enjoyed this as it wasnt anything to do with pattern cutting! I liked the customising idea and the way it was just about your own style in a piece.

DAY BEFORE LAST DAY!

So i am just packing all my stuff up as it is the last day before i have to go do my presentation and hand in the last of my work and then i am going HOME! i am quite excited but also i am looking forward to moving into my new house and then starting yr 2.

Tuesday 25th May

Today we are having a talk on what pathway to choose for our second year, i have looked at what other people are thinking on facebook and they all seem to be choosing pathway B which is the one about design. I think i am going to choose pathway A - Fashion and innovation.

Pathway A: Fashion & Innovation
This option offers you the chance to work with an emphasis on originality, innovation and creativity, and encourages you to use your vision to promote your work. You’ll explore design development, innovative approaches to fashion design, and the communication of fashion concepts through digital media and fashion promotion. Unique modules include Innovative Cut, Fashion Concepts and New Media and Digital Realisation Techniques.

Before i choose to come to Leeds to do Fashion i was looking at doing a fashion promotion course so it would focus just on fashion promotion whereas this course does everything and in second year you choose a more indepth way of working but still learn overall skills. The B pathway seems really making and designing orientated and keeps mentioning the word 'tailoring'! and that really puts me off, hopefully the tutors can see that i dont want to be doing that as i woud find it so incredibly hard!

I guess i will find out more in the talk and then can make a final decision but the reasion i went for this course is because in the second year we do get to choose and pathway A was the reason!

Anyway we will see!

NEARLY AT THE END!

So it is the week before hand in and we are all abit crazy trying to get our final projects together, its hard because we have this interdisciplinary as well as PPD1 which is quite confusing. I think i am on top of everything, got checklists everywhere! bought a cd today for my presentation and final 15 images, still got to figure out which ones i am going to use though.

Today is helping the 3rd years but mine is not here. I think she is quite behind but i cant help her if she isn't in! Ive done some bits and bobs of research and made a poster for models and i think these have helped take abit of the pressure off for her. Hopefully she will be ok, only one more session with her before uni is over for year 1!

I have finished my final garment for inter module and am quite pleased with it, i hope it is good enough as i haven't made it to a crazy high standard as i just don't know how to ! i feel i have learnt bits about how o make a garment but overall my dress if you look closely is abit scatty but i am happy with it!

3RD YEARS

I feel abit bad for my 3rd year as i think she needs more help! i can help her but really only on thursdays as i already have loads of work to do so cant give up my working time for her, we got sent an email for the fashion show i think that would be really fun to do and definatly interesting to see all the 3rd years clothing and stuff.

WORKING WITH 3RD YEARS

Thursday 30th April

Today we met our 3rd years that we will be helping for a few weeks every thursaday. Mine is called Hannah, she seems really nice. Her collection is quite complex and interesting. She is basing it on women who have undergone a mastectomy and want clothing that is feminine and enhances the feminine frame. To me, it isn't something i would do ever, but it seems to fit her and is working out well. She does seem to have a lot to do and i would be worrying if i were her but i'm guessing she is on track and organised as she seems to know what she's doing!

I helped her firstly with some questionaires on cancer forums, i need to check to see if anyone has replied! But then she decided to go home and finish some sewing as the machines at uni were so full so she left about half 1 and i went to help Grace. Everyone else seems to be drawing around patterns to hand in and stayed for ages!

She asked me to fins models for her review but i don't know how! Apparently they have to kind of hire them but from an agency they cost loads so they just have to find people from around college.

Its been good but not sure what she will want me to do next week, but is quite fun!

Interdisciplinary Processes

Our new module is Interdisciplinary Processes. It is supposed to combine all we have learnt in our first year. It started in March before we went for easter and started with the fabric workshops that stupidly i missed. But i think now i have caught up and look forward to this module.

Over the easter i created 15 pages on METAMORPHOSIS which is the theme to this module. I found this quite hard as metamorphosis is a very broad subject. On our first day back we had a task of design development which i really did not like, well i did like it i just didn't think i produced the correct work and that annoyed me. I didn't like what i did and am gonna do that again!

We have to produce a garment, and i do have ideas about what i want to make, and i really want to get it good this time!

These are a few of my research pages!

FINAL FASHION ART AND CULTURE

So these are my final photos for my fashion art and culture module. I looked into British and Japanese Street Fashion and was trying to portray through my artifact how British fashion is subtle and JApanese quite the opposite. I really like what i came up with, i think it looks really edgy and is visually interesting!

My photos were supposed to give a bright and colourful background to my model and to show the simple British countryside as well. I think they came out really well and are what i wanted them to look like.

Hopefully my project is okay, i really tried to work hard on this one but as always it doesn't seem to work that way and I'm not always happy with my project as a whole. I really want to work on this in yr2.
